crown thinning

Crown Thinning

This is the removal of selected live branches growing throughout the crown of the tree. Crown Thinning can result in an even distribution of foliage therefore allowing light penetration and reducing wind resistance on the tree. This type of pruning can reduce the potential for storm damage.

Crown Lifting

Crown Lifting

This is the selective removal of the lower branches of the trees crown. This is done to prevent danger to pedestrians or vehicles which may pass the tree, or it can be done to allow light through.

crownr eduction

Crown Reduction

This is done to allow the continued conservation of the tree where structural problems might otherwise demand the loss of the tree. Crown Reduction is used to reduce the height and/or spread of the crown of a tree by the removal of the ends of the branches whilst maintaining the trees natural shape as far as possible.

This is a heavy crown reduction technique and is appropriate where the crown of a tree is too large for its location or in some instances where extensive defects and weaknesses might make the tree unstable. Severe pruning of this type can cause vigorous re-growth on the tree.

This is a similar technique to pollarding (above) however the tree is cut back to just a few inches above ground level and allowed to regrow multiple stems. This is often done to willow, alder and hazel.

Fruit Tree and Shrub Pruning

Pruning of fruit trees in order to stimulate efficient fruit production. Why? To let sunlight and air in by removing congested and crossing branches, to enable the tree to produce better quality fruit – in appearance, flavour and size. To reduce pest and disease by removing damaged or diseased wood, and to limit the size and shape to the space alloted to each tree. The method and timing of pruning varies between species.

Removing dead, insect-infested or weak limbs that pose a hazard or may lead to decay. Performing this kind of pruning can prolong the life of a tree and prevent damage to property as well as prevent injuries to anyone who may be struck by a falling dead branch.

Tree Felling

Tree Felling

This is the complete removal of a tree. It is necessary to do this to dead, dying or diseased trees to prevent damage or injuries. This can be done by straight felling (where space permits) or by dismantling the tree in sections, we are fully experienced in directional and controlled felling of a tree using winching techniques. We are experts at large and dangerous tree removals. When a tree is deemed hazardous and there is no other solution, we will perform a clean and efficient surgical removal of any tree from your property. All aspects of removal detail will be discussed prior to the job so that you will know exactly what to expect.

National Park and Local Council application to work on trees

We can act as agents on your behalf to deal with trees located in conservation areas or that have a TPO (tree preservation order) on them.

Emergency tree Care

Removing limbs damaged by adverse weather conditions. Storms may cause limbs or entire trees to fall, often landing on homes, cars, and other structures or other trees. The weight of storm-damaged trees is great and they can be very dangerous to remove or trim. We can assist in performing the job in a safe manner while reducing further risk of damage to your property.

Stump Grinding and Removal

Tree stump grinding is the most efficient form of stump removal. It allows paths or driveways to be laid or to allow planting or re-turfing over the specified area. We use specialist tree stump grinding equipment which can remove stumps of any size. Stumps will be ground down to approx 12″ below the ground leaving any roots undisturbed. The resulting hole is then covered over with the grindings or they can be removed off the site. Our machine requires a 35″ access through any gates etc.

Woodland Management

Our woodland management covers everything from boundary fencing or hedging to thinning, ground clearance, eradication and control of invasive species such as laurel and rhododendron, pesticide spraying, eco piles for animals/insects and re-planting.

Vegetation Management

Eradication of invasive weeds using chemical control treatment programmes, effective on a number of types of weed including Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed, Himalayan Balsam, Rhododendron (Ponticum) and Laurel.

Hedge Cutting

Any type and size of hedge from garden to roadside. We can also reduce tall leylandii hedges down to a manageable height.
